With thieves becoming more cunning in the ways they’re accessing our homes and letterboxes, it’s essential to keep your security products up-to-date.  One large security component that most of us overlook is our letterboxes.  Generally speaking, residents will often leave the same lock on their letterbox for the entirety of their time at the property.  Not many people know this, but you can actually have these locks replaced with a more efficient combination lock.

A combination locks provides many benefits and won’t be as easily picked as a standard letterbox lock. The key to out-smarting a thief is trying to make it harder for them to break into whatever they’ve set their eyes on. Even though a prevention is extremely difficult, if you can slow them down enough, it may just be a big enough deterrent for them to stop.

Why should I get a combination lock on my letterbox?

As we mentioned earlier, upgrading your security and making it more difficult for the thief could mean the difference between them getting access to your letterbox or not.  Not only will you make it harder for the burglar to enter, but you’ll also make it easier for yourself.  You’ll no longer need to worry about having your key on you when wanting to open the mailbox and you can also carry around less keys on your keychain.

If you’re worried about other people knowing your combination, it can easily be reset from the inside of the letterbox.  It might even be a good idea to do this every few months or so.

What about installation?

Installation is fairly straight forward. It simply involves removing the previous lock and replacing it with a high-quality combination lock.  If you’re unsure of what to do, you can always request the help of your local Master Locksmith.  Combination locks will suit most mailboxes, so again if you’re unsure whether or not it’ll fit, it’ll be best speaking with your local locksmith.

How many combinations are there to choose from?

Given that these locks have 3-digit combinations, you could create up to 999 possible combinations! This means it would take a thief a very long time to figure out your exact code.
